Dorothy Lee Pepper Green

Dorothy Lee Pepper Green, 98, died Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount, NC.

Mrs. Green was born in Halifax County, May 28, 1918, to the late Bernard and Maggie Shaw Pepper.

She was a long time member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for 28 years and had a great deal of influence on her Sunday School students. She was revered and respected by her Pastors. They often came to her for advice in their ministry.

She loved her family, and was extremely proud of her children. She loved sewing and making things, angels in particular, and she would give those angels to people all over the United States.

She loved being outside, taking care of her flowers and mowing her grass and she did this well into her 90’s. She also had a love for the mountains.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Green was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Green, Sr.; daughter, Carolyn Greene Johnson; brother, Reginald Pepper; two sisters, Clarice Shaw, and Lillie Belle Andleton.

Surviving are her sons, Richard Greene, Jr. of Red Oak, NC and Charles Greene and wife, Susan, of Roanoke Rapids; brothers, Francis Pepper and Joe Pepper, both of Roanoke Rapids; grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson Bryant, Lindsey Greene, Travis Greene and wife, Rebecca; great- grandchildren, Adrienne and Jasmine Bowser and Justice Greene. Also surviving are many, many special friends.

The family will receive friends Monday, March 6, 2017, at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service from 7-8:30 pm and all other times at the home. Revs. C.J. Griffin, Randy Martin and Annie Marie Smith will conduct funeral services Tuesday, March 7, 2017 in the chapel at Hockaday at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.
