Two men pointing guns at pedestrians in the area of Bobby’s Supermarket and Family Dollar were arrested late Wednesday night, according to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

Interim Chief Bobby Martin said it was not clear why Travon Robinson and Cequan Alston, both 21, pointed weapons at people walking in the area shortly after 11:15 p.m.

Martin said the men not only had a real firearm but BB pistols which appeared to be real.

Police received the call because those who had weapons pointed at them took the act as a viable threat, Martin said.

The events which led to their arrests began when a description was given out of the two males walking towards Family Dollar, Martin said in a statement.

Sergeant Adam Salmon located two people fitting the description of the men but they fled.

Salmon and Lieutenant Jeff Baggett gave chase and Officer B. Council got out of his patrol car to give chase as well.

Council gave directions of travel to other units over his radio while in pursuit.

Robinson and Alston were eventually captured and identified as the suspects pointing a gun at pedestrians.

Robinson was charged with go armed to the terror of the people, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, and simple possession of schedule VI.

He was placed under a $7,000 bond.

Alston was charged with possession of firearm by felon, and three counts of resist, delay and obstruct. He received a $15,000 bond.

Detectives O. Wiltsie and M. Worrell as well as the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office assisted.
