After graduating from Rocky Mount High School, Randy enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served until 1962.

Randy fiercely loved his country and frequently shared stories with his children and grandchildren of his travels around the world aboard ship, including his time anchored off the coast of Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Randy enjoyed a long career in insurance sales and had the great fortune to pursue a true passion as a second career in real estate sales and as an auctioneer.

However, everyone who had the fortune of meeting Randy will know that his life’s greatest occupation was as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and cousin – simply put, his greatest passion was his family.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Bobbie Jean Campbell Carmichael, and his three sons, Randy (Hope) of Raleigh, Brent (Brenda) of the Darlington area, and Steven (Stacey) of Clemmons, NC.  “Poppy” will be sorely missed by his grandchildren, Cody, Emma, Anna Ross, Gillian, and Maggie, and none of them will ever forget his favorite tease that he would “get their britches!”

The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of UNC Rex Healthcare for the devoted care he received there.  The family would also like to thank neighbor Dennis Odom for his help and support in the last several months.

The funeral service for Mr. Carmichael will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, December 7, 2021 from the graveside at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.   Pastor Randy Martin will preside.

Friends may visit with the family following the graveside service.
