Reverend James "Simp" Lewis Jenkins, 94, of Roanoke Rapids died Thursday morning, October 29, 2020 at Kernersville Medical Center in Kernersville, NC.  

Simp was born in Halifax County on February 20,1926, the son of Lewis and Undine Herrin Jenkins, both of whom preceded him in death.  He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Nobie and George Jenkins.

He was a retired lineman with Stone-Webster Surveying, and Jake Shearin Land Surveying.   Rev. Jenkins started his ministry in 1965 as a mission worker.  He was the founder of the Little County Baptist Church on Thelma Road.

Rev. Jenkins is survived by his wife, Annie Burl Jenkins; daughter and son-in-law, Kaye J. and Glenn Smith of Kernersville; grandchildren, April King and Robin Walker; great-grandchildren, Haley Martin, Josh Denton and Montana King; great-great-grandchild, Lailynn Luce; nieces, Laura Arthur, Fran Connor, Ruth Dunlow, Gail Jenkins; and nephews,  Wes Jenkins, Jodi Jenkins and John Jenkins.

The funeral service for Rev. Simp Jenkins will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, November 1, 2020 from the graveside at the Little Country Baptist Church Cemetery.  Friends may visit with the family following the service.   Please consider the social distancing recommendations. Visitation at the church will be held from noon to 2:45 p.m.
