The Roanoke Rapids Parks and Recreation Department and Main Street Roanoke Rapids ushered in the holiday season with Christmas on the Avenue this evening.

Sponsored by Halifax Linen and Roseburg Forest Products, the event had activities at Centennial Park and in the 1000 block of the avenue.

Christmas crafts were made at the 1026 greenspace and inside the Halifax County Arts Council building. Children also had the opportunity to write Santa letters at the 1026 greenspace.

At Centennial Park children got to visit with Santa.

Christmas on the Avenue serves as the lead-in to Sunday’s Christmas parade which steps off down Roanoke Avenue at 2 p.m.

And on Saturday the recreation department is having a family movie night at T.J. Davis Recreation Center at 6 p.m. Tracy Story and Discount Tire and Automotive is sponsoring the event in which The Polar Express will be screened.
