Halifax County Business Horizons Thursday presented its annual Working Together Works award to the owners of Weldon Mills Distillery.

The Horizons annual meeting was held at Chockoyotte Country Club and honored Michael Hinderliter and Bruce Tyler.

Scott Aman, newly-elected president of Halifax Horizons, highlighted the vision and entrepreneurial spirit that led to the creation of Weldon Mills Distillery.

“Michael Hinderliter and Bruce Tyler met every challenge imaginable and created an award-winning distillery in just four-short years,” said Aman. “Today, the Weldon Mills Distillery is a nationally and internationally recognized distiller, winning awards each year, including Spirit of the Year, Best Bourbon Whiskey, and Distillery of the Year in 2022.”

In accepting the award, Hinderliter said, “I am honored to accept this recognition on behalf of Weldon Mills Distillery. Bruce and I have received amazing local support and we believe that our future plans for the distillery will help to springboard opportunities to transform Weldon and its riverfront.”

Located on the banks of the Roanoke River in Weldon, Weldon Mills Distillery produces spirits such as bourbon, whiskey, vodka, gin, and other flavored liquors.

It uses North Carolina-sourced water, corn, wheat, and barley in their products.

Ronnie Locke, chairman of the Halifax County Economic Development Commission and a Halifax Horizons Board member, said, “Working together really does work and it is important that we recognize individuals like Bruce Tyler and Michael Hinderliter who invest in our communities. We look forward to supporting the future growth of the Weldon Mills Distillery.”
