The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Bobby Martin:
Thursday around 10 p.m. officers responded to the 200 block of Monroe Street after receiving a shots fired call.
Officers discovered a male victim sustained a gunshot wound to his upper body. The injury was not life-threatening, according to the police chief.
Officers spoke with the victim before he was carried to Vidant North for treatment.

Wednesday around 11:30 a.m., Officer B. Council and Master Officer J. Horne responded to a residence in the 300 block of Marshall Street on a domestic call.
Council assisted the man, who was identified as Leo Fleming, 43, in removing his belongings so he could leave the residence.
Council detected the odor of marijuana inside and as they entered a bedroom, he noticed a pill bottle with two baggies which contained a white powder inside.
Council detained Fleming and contacted narcotics Agent C. Batchelor about a search warrant.
The search warrant was granted and 8.4 grams of what was believed to be fentanyl and 22.5 grams of marijuana were seized.
Fleming was arrested and taken before a magistrate who charged him with trafficking fentanyl, possession of schedule VI, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He received a $20,000 secured bond and May 27 court date.
