The Halifax County Health Department today added 14 new positive cases of the novel coronavirus since its last report on Friday.

The 14 new positives bring the total since testing began in March to 964. There have been 18 deaths — 14 within the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code; two within the Weldon area ZIP code; one within the Enfield area ZIP code; and one within the Scotland Neck area ZIP code.

The health department said despite the increase since Friday, the overall trend of positive cases is decreasing.

Recoveries and current positive cases are expected to be reported in Wednesday’s update. In last Thursday’s report the health department reported a 93.9 percent recovery rate.

The health department encourages residents to continue to practice the three Ws — waiting six feet apart, handwashing and wearing a facial covering. “Improving your compliance with the three Ws now will both better educate children as to how to practice them. Please take this opportunity to protect our children and each other very seriously,” the health department said.
