The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following, according to Chief Deputy Scott Hall:

On June 7 Deputy B. Murphy was investigating a drug complaint at Food Lion on West Tenth Street.

An open air sniff of the vehicle was conducted by Agent D. Newsome and his dog Duri, which indicated a positive alert for narcotics.

Murphy seized 7.3 grams of cocaine and arrested Travis Manley, 32, of Roanoke Rapids, for felony possession of cocaine.

He has a July 17 court date.

On June 8 shortly after 11 p.m., Lieutenant C.E. Carroll stopped a 2010 Honda Accord on Simmons Street near West Tenth Street in Roanoke Rapids for a motor vehicle violation.  

Carroll developed information criminal activity was afoot.  

Roanoke Rapids Master Officer R. Cross and his dog Midas were requested and Lieutenant P. Parks, also of RRPD, arrived.

Midas alerted for the presence of unlawful drugs. A search of the Honda yielded 26 grams of marijuana, syringes, a digital scale, 1800 empty wax baggies to store heroin, 3 grams of heroin and 5 grams of what is believed to be Fentynal.

Eric Cruz Pineda, 27, of Kenly, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, carrying a concealed weapon and driving while license revoked.   

Pineda has a July 3 court date.

Sheriff’s office Sergeant Roger Jenkins, Agent Roy Ball and Deputy Joshua Bulloch assisted.
