Historic Halifax will host its third 2nd Saturdays Program on August 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The theme of the program is A Market Faire. At the Halifax County Library at 10 a.m., Wanda McLean will provide a presentation for the public on the National Park Service Underground Railroad Program. The Roanoke River has received designation as an escape means for runaway slaves. Historic Halifax has plans to install wayside educational exhibits on the runaway slaves in the Halifax area. McLean will be providing information on the program and also on future signage information gathered to this point. There will be unique crafter demonstrations and they will be selling their wares in the Halifax Visitor Center; the Potecasi Creek String Band will perform from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; various historic buildings will be open for tour; produce will be sold; and food and goodies will be sold by Pearl’s Country Kitchen of Roanoke Rapids during the day event. The Concerned Citizens of Tillery will have crafts, food and tours offered at the Resettlement House in Tillery.
