The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

Roanoke Rapids High School is welcoming its first exchange student in six years this semester.

A student representing the Roanoke Rapids Graded School District recently received a perfect score in the first of three meets for this year’s WordMasters Challenge — a national vocabulary competition involving nearly 150,000 students annually.

2016 early voting locations

Early voting starts on March 3 and 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; March 7 through 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and March 12 at the Ag Center Auditorium  from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and at the other sites that day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Tripp, Davis set gun buy-back program

Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp and Enfield police Chief Tyree Davis are joining forces for a February 13 gun buy-back program.

Roanoke Rapids police have arrested another person in the January 2 Yesteryear shooting, bringing the total charged in the case to four.

HCC to participate in Allen stamp dedication

Halifax Community College will host a stamp dedication in conjunction with the U.S. Postal Service as part of Black History Month festivities Wednesday.
