The Northside Monarchs, 6-4, will travel to Roanoke Rapids, 10-1, to face the Yellow Jackets in round one of the state playoffs. The Monarchs will travel from Jacksonville to Roanoke Rapids for the Friday night kick off at 7:30 at Hoyle Field.

Coach Bob Eason will bring a team that finished the season with a 23-14 loss to Richland’s High School.

The Northside Monarchs have very young players at the skill positions while their strength lies with the line play on defense and offense. The Monarchs are led by 6-1, 280 pound Senior Monte Golden.

He plays on the offensive and defensive line. Jaylen Dillahunt who is 6-2 and weighs 215 is also very effective at the linebacker position.

The Northside Monarchs have allowed only 172 points they played top ranked East Duplin close, losing by a score of 14-0.

The Yellow Jackets will bring one of the most explosive offenses in the state to the field Friday night.

The Jacket offense, led by quarterback Justin Rawles, have scored a total of 510 points this season while the Monarchs have scored just 250. The Jackets have also played good defense with a young line.

Senior Chris Lyons and Ryan Howell have led a defense that has only allowed 134 points this year. The Jackets also have one of the state’s best kept secrets in a lineman by the name of J.J. Patterson, who is 6-3 and weighs 290 pounds.

He has opened up holes all year for Rawles and Tyrell Everette. Patterson is pound for pound one of the Jackets strongest football players and as a junior he has probably opened the eyes of many college recruiters.

The Jackets finished the regular season with a 42-0 win over Northwest Halifax. Coach Eason from Northside will have his work cut out for him in preparation for this game due to the Jackets ability to pass and run.

The Jackets will need to work on special teams, which has been a problem over the past several weeks. The Jackets allowed a kick off return against Bunn and two against North Johnston.
