BUNN — The Roanoke Rapids Yellow Jackets traveled to Bunn to face the Wildcats with both teams tied for first and undefeated in Northern Carolina Conference play.

The Jackets, under the leadership of Justin Rawles, would bring in a high-powered offense and Bunn would counter with a high-powered offense of their own lead by Andre Davis.

The Jackets would eventually overpower the home team for a 49-21 win.

The Jackets won the toss and elected to receive and started from their own 29-yard line. It would take only 12 plays and Tyrell Everette took the ball in from the 10-yard line and it was 7-0 with 6:35 left to play in the first quarter.

The Jackets kicked off to Bunn and the Wildcats Miles Clifton returned the ball 92 yards on the kickoff and it was 7-7 in a matter of 14 seconds.

Bunn kicked off and was penalized for kicking the ball out of bounds so the Jackets took over on the 35-yard line.

Rawles completed a 7-yard pass to Clay Lockamon and then Rawles broke loose two plays later with a 34-yard run setting up a 1-yard touchdown run from Everette to give the Jackets a 14-7 lead with 3:28 left in the first quarter.

Bunn took the kickoff from the Jackets and returned it to the 27-yard line.

Bunn picked up a first down and Quinton Cannady had a big run spinning and turning to escape a host of Jackets to move the ball to the Jacket 34. Andre Davis connected a pass to D.L. Burroughs who was tackled at the 1-yard line.

Cannady scored on the next play with a 1-yard run and it was 14-14 with 11:57 remaining in the second quarter.

The Jackets started their next drive on the 18-yard line following a penalty and in just four plays Rawles scored on a 55-yard run and the Jackets would go up 21 to 14.

Bunn got the ball and Andre Davis threw an interception that was picked off by A.J. Alston.

Rawles then completed a 34-yard pass to Alston for a touchdown and the Jackets would go up 28-14.

The Jackets kicked off to Bunn and two plays later Davis completed a pass that was tipped by Everette to Miles Clifton and he would score, cutting the Jacket lead to 28-21 at the half.

Coach Russell Weinstein talked to the defense at halftime about containment and on ways they could stop Davis.

The Jacket defense took notes and came out in the second half forcing Bunn to punt. The Jackets took over on the 43 and two plays later Justin Rawles headed to the end zone with a 40-yard touchdown run and the Jackets lead went to 35-21.

Bunn tried to answer but Davis threw a pick to Rawles and the play ended with Bunn being flagged for a late hit out of bounds.

Rawles would lead the Jackets with an 8-yard touchdown run and the Jackets are up 42-21.

The Wildcats still had not given up as they took the ball down to the 2-yard line.

The Jackets came up big with a goal line stand led by Ryan Howell and took over on downs at the 3.

The Jackets would finish the fourth quarter out with a long drive led by Everette. Everette scored the final touchdown of the game and the Jackets would defeat Bunn 49-21. Owen Bridges made all his extra points and the Jackets defense did not allow Bunn a score in the second half.

The Jackets now take sole possession of first place in the Northern Carolina Conference.

Coach Weinstein told his players that they had taken a big step in controlling their own destiny and now the rest was up to them.
