The Roanoke Rapids Yellow Jackets who are 6-1 with a 2-0-conference record will face the Bunn Wildcats who are also 6-1 with a 2-0-conference record.
The game could have big implications on how these teams are seeded in the state playoffs.
The Jackets are coming off a big 72-0 win over the Warren County Eagles and Bunn is coming off a 27-8 win over Northwest Halifax.
The Bunn Wildcats have speed at the skill positions.
Bunn’s quarterback, Andre Davis, is their leader. The 5-foot-11, 170- pound senior was outstanding in Bunn’s 27-13 victory over previously undefeated North Johnston.
Coach Chris Miller moved Davis from running back to quarterback this year. Andre Davis runs the 40 in 4.4 seconds and he has created problems for defenses because he can throw and run.
The Yellow Jackets, likewise, bring a powerful offensive package with quarterback Justin Rawles as the leader.
Rawles is 5-foot-10 and 185 pounds and he can throw and run the ball and he has created problems for defenses who lack speed.
The Jackets also sport a very strong offensive line led by J.J. Patterson who is 6-foot-3 and 345 pounds.
The Jackets can match the speed at the skill positions that Bunn has with D.J. Epperson and A.J. Alston. The Jackets have also stepped up big on defense, allowing Warren to only 10 yards of total offense.
Bunn was hit hard for penalties with 21 accepted against North Johnston. The Jackets have clearly dominated all their opponents this year except for the top ranked Tarboro Vikings who gave them their only loss.
The game against Bunn will be the Jackets’ first true test in conference play. The last division 2A-High School AP poll had the Jackets receiving 4 votes and sitting just out of the top ten.
The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Bunn.
