The victim in an apparent domestic shooting survived a single shot to the neck and was released from medical care this morning, the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said.

The shooting occurred on Lucky Drive in Halifax around 1 a.m. today and the man charged, Kenneth Lamonte Young, was charged with attempted murder and jailed on $500,000 bond.

The 27-year-old Young, of Roanoke Rapids, also faces charges of shooting into an occupied vehicle and damage to property.

Major Bruce Temple said the shooting occurred when the victim dropped off Young, her boyfriend, and a dispute ensued.

The victim was shot at repeatedly with a small caliber handgun and one bullet struck her in the neck, Temple said.

She managed to drive to a nearby church and told dispatchers she was shot at while driving away.

Young fled the scene but was later caught by deputies. The weapon has not been recovered. Young has an August 8 court date.
