Judith Ellis, 61, of Littleton Deep Creek Road, died in the crash, according to a preliminary report filed by Trooper M.W. Pittman of the state Highway Patrol. The initial report also indicates another person, Harry Johnson Jr., 42, of Hamill Street, Roanoke Rapids, was injured in the crash.
Ellis was traveling west on Thelma Road when her vehicle crossed the center line. Johnson crossed the center line to avoid hitting Ellis. Ellis struck Johnson's vehicle head-on. Johnson was treated at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
The crash occurred around 7:20 p.m.
