Mayfield Mayfield Roanoke Rapids Police Department

A Weldon woman with a past history of prostitution was charged with common law robbery and simple assault Wednesday morning, according to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

Captain Andy Jackson could not confirm that the alleged theft of $184 and the pushing of an 88-year-old male victim at the Carolina Inn was tied to prostitution.

The crime was reported shortly before 11 a.m. when the victim said he heard a knock at the door. Thinking it was a motel employee, he opened the door and was pushed down to the bed, allegedly by Vanessa Mayfield, 43, of Elm Street.

She allegedly robbed the man of his money and was jailed on $15,000 bond. She has a February 8 court date.

Jackson said witnesses identified the woman as Mayfield.

This was the second call of some type of disturbance at the motel within the last two weeks, the last being a stabbing call on Christmas morning.
