A 26-year-old Rich Square woman has been charged in a November 26 fatal crash in which a 10-year-old boy died.

Trooper T.C. Wood of the state Highway Patrol said this morning Krista Whitaker faces charges of DWI, careless and reckless driving, improper child restraint and felony death by motor vehicle.

She was charged Tuesday and jailed on $100,000 bond.

Despite the DWI charge, Wood said investigators are waiting on the return of a blood alcohol test to determine whether alcohol use was a contributing factor in the crash, which occurred around 9 p.m. on Highway 305 outside Rich Square.

Caziah Phillips died in the crash when the vehicle Whitaker was driving hit the vehicle he was a passenger in head-on.

Whitaker was traveling with a 4-year-old and the improper child restraint count reflects the child was not restrained properly.

A passenger in the car was Phillips was in remains in critical condition.
