The Weldon Police Department is warning residents to watch for a possible scam involving paving.

Chief Mark Macon said this afternoon a dump truck dumped unordered gravel at a residence and spread it.

A black or blue Chevrolet pickup, possibly a Silverado, accompanied the dump truck and $150 was requested. Forty dollars was given to make the people go away. A Hispanic male was driving the pickup and two black males were operating the dump truck.

The dump truck has no marking other than a phone number but it is supposed to represent a company called Eastern Paving. The dump truck is white with a 1-800 number on it, although the complete number was not identified.

Macon said it is important to call law enforcement as events like these occur.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the police department at 252-536-3136 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
