Two charged with pot possession

Two Roanoke Rapids men were charged Tuesday and Monday for marijuana possession.

Detective Tyree Davis said in a news release Deputy Chris High of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office stopped a car for a traffic violation near the area of the old airport in Roanoke Rapids Tuesday. After approaching the vehicle Deputy High smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. After speaking with the occupants he located 27.8 grams of marijuana. Michael Lawrence Fahey of Monroe Street was charged with possession of more than a half-ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Fahey was given a $2,500 bond and his court date is set for Oct. 27.

On Monday, Deputy High, who was in the same location as he was Tuesday, also located a set of measuring scales and 22.7 grams of marijuana and arrested and charged Tyrone Altiwood Garner of Colonial Drive with possession of more then a half-ounce of marijuana. Garner was given a $1,000 bond and his court date is set for Oct. 26.
