Two people were arrested this morning for stealing rims from a local garage.

Lieutenant Bobby Martin of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said around 3 a.m. Deputy Josh Clark noticed a suspicious vehicle parked on an empty parking lot located near Highway 48 and American Legion Road.

Further investigation showed 22-year-old Lashonda Renea Sykes and 33-year old Antwan Lee Braxton, both of Roanoke Rapids, had just broke into Powell’s Garage. Martin told rrspin.com the rims were stacked, ready to be taken from the premises.

Both individuals were arrested and taken to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office. Detective James Matthews charged the pair with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny and first degree trespassing for today’s break-in.

Additional charges for first degree trespassing and felony larceny were taken out by Matthews for a May break-in at the business. Some $5,000 worth of rims have been stolen.

Sykes and Braxton were each placed in the Halifax County Jail under $20,000 bonds.
