A traffic stop led to the recovery of pills and marijuana as well as charges for the driver of the vehicle, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Lieutenant Chuck Hasty said Deputy C.E. Carroll stopped the vehicle on Highway 48 in Roanoke Rapids Saturday.

Carroll learned Louis Donnell Hawkins, 23, was the driver and following a search of the vehicle discovered marijuana, drug paraphernalia, pills and a shotgun.

He was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and prescription label violation.

Because a 15-year-old was in the vehicle, Hawkins was also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Two 17-year-olds were also in the vehicle, Major Bruce Temple said.

Hawkins was jailed on $3,000 bond and has a January 18 court date.

Jessica,

An "unwrongful search" would be one not considered wrongful wouldn't it? And if so then how could he sue? And then you tell Phyllis to mind her own business? It's a public forum for opinion and discussion. In all actuality this is NO ONE'S business but Halifax Co court, RRPD, Halifax Co Sheriff's Department, and the Stae of NC and RRSpin.com since most of it is legal matters!

Jessica,

If a Officer ask to search the vehicle and the person says yes then that is all they have to do. If there was reason to suspect that something was in there then it's the officers job to search and if the person refuses then they can get a warrant to let them search.

frm my understandin it was an unwrongful search. the officer shouldnt have search the car if was nt related to a routine traffic stop. I think he should sue the officer or police department for the wronful arrest and be found not guilty for the charges. and phyllis moody u need to mind ur own business.

Lance, Isn't there a law referring to sale and delivery charges when a firearm is present? I seem to remember one being passed many years ago that was put in place carrying a minimum sentence if convicted. Was that law overturned? Just wondering why there are no charges relating to the firearm in conjunction with drug charges.
