Three people were arrested Friday after a dispute with others, according to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

Deputy Chief Adam Bondarek said officers received a call two groups of people were arguing and getting ready to fight in the 700 block of Henry Street. When officers arrived there was no sign of the people.

Later, however, there was another report an argument was going on behind the Sonic near Carolina and Eleventh streets where gunfire took place.

C Squad officers and detectives responded and collected shell casings as evidence.

As officers continued to investigate a car was stopped on Hunting Ridge, a vehicle which matched the description of the one involved in the earlier arguments.

Three people were arrested and a Ruger semiautomatic handgun was recovered.

Police charged the following:

• Douglas Gray, 22, of Roanoke Rapids, with driving while license revoked, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was jailed on $5,000 bond.

• Jimmie Edwards Jr., 22, of Roanoke Rapids, with assault with a deadly weapon. He was jailed on $750 bond.

• Anna Woodruff, 23, of Roanoke Rapids, with carrying a concealed weapon. She was jailed on $1,200 bond.

Bondarek said it is not clear what the people were arguing about and investigation continues.
