Three charged after crashing gate

Three people were charged Wednesday night after they crashed through a gate at Roanoke Valley Auto works and attempted to steal vehicles from the business on Hinson Street.

The people arrested, two men and a woman, face charges of two counts of motor vehicle theft, two counts of possession and concealing stolen property and one count of trespassing, according to a report filed by Officer David Brown of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

Two of the people were arrested as they attempted to flee and another person was found hiding nearby.

Derrick Lamar Fleming, 28, of Roanoke Rapids, was jailed on $10,000 bond. He has additional charges of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, escape from custody and criminal damage to property.

Marcus Marco Avent, 23, of Roanoke Rapids, was jailed on $4,500 bond and faces additional charges of breaking and entering and criminal damage to property.

Latisha Devon Richardson, 24, of Roanoke Rapids, was jailed on $1,200 bond and faces additional charges of criminal damage to property and breaking and entering.
