A Garysburg teen is facing child sex charges following an investigation by the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Social Services Child Protection Services.

On Monday, NCSO Sgt. Jason Boone arrested David Lee Bottoms, 18, of Garysburg on two outstanding warrants for first degree sex offense with a child.

According to NCSO Chief Detective Capt. D.M. Harmon, the charges stem from a report of child sex abuse received by the Northampton County DSS.

“An investigation was conducted by myself and CPS (Child Protection Services) Investigator Sandra Williams,” he said. “The child was sent to the Tedi Bear Children’s Advocacy Center in Greenville for evaluations; as a result of the investigation these charges were filed.”

Bottoms was placed in the Northampton County Jail under a $50,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was scheduled for today.
