Scotland Neck police have identified the body of a man found Sunday as Benjamin Parker of Roanoke Street.

While investigation continues, Chief Joe Williams said it is believed Parker, 27, died of a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Parker had a lengthy past criminal record and also faced recent charges from the police department and Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

Lieutenant S. Hall of the sheriff's office said this morning narcotics agents last Wednesday served a search warrant at Parker's residence and seized crack, marijuana and firearms.

He was arrested but posted bond later.

Hall said Parker did not show signs he was depressed. “He shared concern about the charges but no more than anyone else facing the same charges.”

To tell it like it is my point was never if he was depressed or not nor was it my point to say that his criminal reconsider had nothing to do with this man committing suicide only God knows why he took his life. The point I was making was that it this man's criminal history should not have been put in the paper for others to speculate because he had a record and was facing charges he took his own life. which was my original post. If that is why he ended his like or not actually is besides the point. My response never ventured away from that but what I did say was in the event that you believe his life style did in fact impact it do you have proof and if you make a generalized statement can it be applied to other cases such ad the " Mary Ann Holder" case or does the comment that it was because of his criminal record only apply to this particular individual.

say what you want, trust me, the fact he is facing some big time for intent to sell narcotics will weigh high on ones mind. Then not to mention probably the state taking his home etc for maintaining a dwelling to keep the narcotics in. yes this will hit hard on ones mind. Then you got Christmas coming which unless you are rich or have some close friends to share the holidays with, can be a depressing time for some especially if they can't afford gifts for others. So I can say the drug bust didn't help, it added to the depressive thoughts and feelings he was having. I have depression and have had it for over 25 years. it don't mean every minute you are depressed but some things can set off this depressive destruction or thoughts and even though you try to hide it from others eventually when you are alone you will think more and more and things finally become too much and one cant find no other way out but death.

Evelyn, I do not agree, with your comment "you can't help but believe that his choice of lifestyle had alot to do with the decisions he made", no one knows what his mental state was at the time he decided to end his life, if your make such general statements then would it be right to say that Mary Ann Holder's lifestyle led her to take the lives of the children that she cared for and her own life. Can you provide statistical evidence that the lifestyle that someone live's contribute to their decision to commit suicide? As I stated before his "life style" or criminal history should not be subject to public opinion as to why he took his own life, one has nothing to do with the other. It's offensive.

Agreed, "Concerned". Although we shouldn't judge him, you can't help but believe that his choice of lifestyle had alot to do with the decisions he made. So sad for the family left to struggle and raise his kids.

This man's criminal history should not be the topic of discussion in the event that he may have taken his life. His family and friends are dealing with the lost of a long one and this story is not sensitive to that. No matter what he did in life that is no longer the question as those life behind are trying to pick up the pieces.
