The investigation and subsequent arrest of Steve Allen McClenny, 37, began when Deputy Charlie Jenkins and Lieutenant Chuck Hasty stopped the man for an outstanding warrant for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Hasty said a vehicle search revealed drug paraphernalia and stolen property from a crime reported to the sheriff’s office Monday.
McClenny allegedly went inside a house and took the victim’s purse. Hasty charged him with breaking and entering, larceny, possession of stolen goods and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was also served with outstanding warrants from Nash County for injury to property and larceny and was served with a warrant for obtaining property by false pretense and an order for arrest out of Wake County. For those charges he was jailed on $3,500 bond and has an October 27 court date.
Meanwhile, an investigation by Deputy Chris Scott on crimes that occurred Friday and Sunday led to more charges against McClenny.
Hasty said Scott learned from the victim McClenny allegedly took and used the victim’s credit card at various locations without the victim’s permission. McClenny also allegedly went into the victim’s house and stole a computer. Scott charged McClenny with financial card theft, obtaining property by false pretense and larceny.
For those charges he was jailed on $20,000 bond and has a November 30 court date.
