Lieutenant Bobby Martin said the shooting occurred shortly after 2 a.m. outside the Lighthouse Club on Highway 903 near Scotland Neck.
Investigators learned one person was shot in the upper body with a handgun and the suspects fled.
The victim was taken to one local hospital and then transferred to another.
