Williams Williams Halifax County Sheriff's Office

A registered sex offender from Littleton was charged Tuesday with allegedly trying to lure a woman into unwanted sex acts through the social networking site Facebook.

Detective J. Puhak of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said investigation of the case began in June when it was reported Alexander “Pooney” Williams, 34, was allegedly using the site for those purposes.

Investigation led Puhak to discover that Williams failed to register his address change within three days and that he was using the site for illicit purposes.

Puhak this morning declined to discuss how Williams was using the site, whether it was through the chat mechanisms on the site or through private message.

Williams was charged with failing to report change of address by a sex offender and sex offender using a social website.

Puhak noted in a press release this was the third time Williams within two years has failed to register his address change, allegedly failing to report the change in July of 2010 and this March.

He was jailed on $100,000 bond and has a December 14 court date.
