A man wanted in the theft and cutting of aluminum john boats for scrap metal turned himself in Monday.

The Halifax County Sheriff's Office had already arrested Kasey Tanner of Roanoke Rapids following an investigation by Deputy J.M. Clark, Lieutenant George Evans said in a press release.

Clark's investigation of the July 1 theft of two john boats also identified Michael Finch, who turned himself in to Deputy L.M. Rigsby.

The two were allegedly responsible for stealing the boats and then cutting them up to sell for scrap.

Tanner was charged with possession of stolen goods and obtaining property by false pretense. Finch, of Roanoke Rapids, faces charges of felony larceny, possession of stolen goods and obtaining property by false pretense.

Finch was jailed on $2,000 bond and has an August 24 court date.

The grinning felon! Must be pretty stupid to be so happy over a felony charge.
