A malfunctioning brake light led to drug charges for a Seaboard man Friday night.

Weldon Police Chief Mark Macon said Sergeant C.T. Buffaloe and Officer J.N. Sampson detained Melvin Curry and Buffaloe's dog, Tyson, detected the odor of narcotics.

An ounce of marijuana and a gram of powdered cocaine was found in the vehicle, which was stopped on Second Street.

Curry was charged with felony possession of cocaine, possession with intent to manufacture marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, maintaining a vehicle to keep a controlled substance, brake light violation and failure to notify DMV of address change.
