A 50-year-old Scotland Neck man died Wednesday in a single vehicle crash, according to the state Highway Patrol.

Trooper Scott Richardson noted in his report Jeffrey Morgan crossed the center line of State Road 1804 about a half mile north of Highway 903 around 6 p.m. He overcorrected, hit a mailbox and then struck a ditch, culvert and tree.

He was reported dead on arrival to the hospital.

This was the sixth fatal of the year in Halifax and Northampton counties and the first since August 27.
