Roanoke Rapids police investigate I-95 crash

A helicopter leaves the scene. A helicopter leaves the scene.

Roanoke Rapids police are currently investigating a two-car crash on Interstate 95 near the 171 exit.

Details are not immediately available but it appears two people were airlifted by helicopters from the scene. Two helicopters were at the scene.

The extent of injuries is not known at this time, nor are the identities of the those hospitalized.

One of the cars is pulled onto a tow truck.

It appears from observations both vehicles sustained front end damage from the wreck which occurred earlier this afternoon in the southbound lane.
