Bradley Bradley Roanoke Rapids Police Department

A dispute over a woman led to aggravated assault and other charges for a Roanoke Rapids man who allegedly tried to run down his rival with his car while training a shotgun on him.

The events culminated Monday afternoon around 2:45 when Detective Frankie Griffin, who was outside the Roanoke Rapids Police Department on Roanoke Avenue investigating a wreck, saw a man running toward him.

The man, according to Captain Andy Jackson, was screaming, “He's trying to kill me. He's got a shotgun.”

This coincided with a call the police department received of an armed man on the parking lot of Big Al's.

The victim gave Griffin a description of the vehicle and Lieutenant Bruce Norton spotted it on Oakley Avenue and detained the suspect, identified as Lawrence Rogers Bradley Jr., 28, of Zoo Road. A 12-gage camouflage shotgun was in the car.

Bradley was taken into custody and charged with six counts of aggravated assault, two counts of communicating threats, one count of harassing phone calls, one count of injury to personal property and one count aggressive driving. He was jailed on $100,000 secured bond and has a November 16 court date.

All charges stem from Bradley allegedly following the victim down Tenth Street, twice bumping the victim's car and pointing a shotgun at him. The victim was apparently trying to get to the police station but the chase ended in the parking lot of Big Al's where the victim then fled to the police station. The vehicle had noticeable damage on it.

This all stemmed, Jackson said, from Bradley being jealous that the victim was dating his former girlfriend.

No one knows the true story of "exactly" why this happened. No his charges aren't pending because of race. Wow, I absolutely love how people like to throw that around in any case shape or form. Black or white the charges he received are the ones the judicial system felt were necessary. Bradley and this young lady are the only ones who truly know "why" this took place. After all they were the ones in their off and on relationships with each other.

Why wasn't this guy charged with attempted murder? It's obivous what his intentions were? Do you have to physically harm someone in order to be charged with attempted murder? Are all the charges misdemenors[sic ]? I'm hard on my community, but these charges are not as serious as his intentions were, Why? Does race come into play here? Where are the felony charges?
