Mayor Emery Doughtie says no one has told the Easy Street band it can’t play at the Roanoke Rapids Theatre.

It’s just with the city taking control of the venue, the concert must now get the city’s blessing.

Betty Robinson, the manager of the band which was scheduled to play at the theater on September 24, is scheduled to appear at council’s 5:15 p.m. work session Tuesday.

Plans for the band to play at the theater were scrapped after a court order allowed the city to take control of the auditorium while litigation with Lafayette Gatling continues.

Doughtie said he encouraged Robinson to appear before council. “She can’t do the show unless it’s approved by the city. It’s like starting from scratch.”

The item appears on the agenda as a request to have a concert the middle of October.

This gives the band time for a recording session in Nashville and its lead singer to recover from a burst appendix, Robinson said Thursday.

The work session will be held in the first floor conference room of city hall.
