That’s how Pat Croisetiere of the Roanoke Valley Patriots describes this year’s Christmas parade, which the group is hosting, on December 5 at 2 p.m.
The theme will be A Musical Christmas, she said this morning.
“Since I had done it in 07, I felt comfortable with planning it,” Croisetiere said this morning. “We want to give the Tea Party a good name in this community.
The only thing political about the parade will be all winners in November, regardless of affiliation, will be invited as guests, something traditionally done.
Croisetiere believes there is plenty of time to plan the parade. “I think it will be OK. I’ve got my list of participants. I think people are enthused.”
Croisetiere told Mayor Emery Doughtie Wednesday the group wanted to host the parade after learning Widows Son Lodge would not sponsor it this year. “We’re still forming the committee.”
She believes it is important for the city to have a parade. “I think it’s something children look forward to. I think it’s something the world needs right now. The kids hurt when adults don’t step forward.”
Because the patriots are nonprofit, the group will need help, Croisetiere said. “We’re going to need donations if we bring in Shriners and have prizes. Sometimes bands need help.”
The group plans to use the same website — www.rrchristmasparade.com – and PO box as last year.
Croisetiere said one of the regulations of the parade is that Christmas music play from all floats. “We want to fill the air.”
She said some of the members of Widows Son Lodge are going to help and Doughtie already gave what she described as a generous donation.
City Manager Paul Sabiston said he was pleased to learn the parade will have a host. “I’d hate for the city to miss out. We’ve already had some volunteers step up.”
Doughtie said city council is expected to discuss the parade at its Tuesday work session. “I’m optimistic the city will do what it can to support them administratively and financially.”
