The National Association of Realtors offers this certification to realtors who want to help both buyers and sellers through these complicated transactions as demand for professional expertise with distressed sales grows.

According to a recent association survey, nearly one-third of all existing homes sold were recently short sales of foreclosures. Realtors who have earned this certification know how to help sellers through the complexities of short sales and help buyers pursue sale and foreclosure opportunities.

The program includes training on how to qualify sellers for short sales, negotiate with lenders, protect buyers and limit risks. It provides resources to help realtors stay current on national and state information on the market for distressed properties.
