Police investigate morning assault

Roanoke Rapids police are seeking information about an assault that occurred this morning, sending two people to hospital.

Captain Andy Jackson said the assault occurred shortly before 4 a.m. at 531 Hamilton Street.

Two victims were sitting on the porch when four people described as black males said something to them.

The altercation led to a fight and the victims sustained contusions and abrasions. One was kicked in the back as he tried to help the other victim.

The assault remains under investigation and anyone with information is encouraged to call Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
