Police investigate bread store B&E

Roanoke Rapids police are investigating a break-in at the Merita bread store on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway in which entry was gained by prying sheet metal and removing insulation from the back of the building.

Captain Andy Jackson said the crime was reported around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Investigating officers said the cash register was thrown on the floor, a mail bag containing money orders to vendors ripped open and the business office ransacked.

Missing was a $200 Western Union money order.
