I usually read and don't post in the comment sections of these stories but I feel the need to interject in this case. I do not feel that the argument applies to this story in particular but it has been brought up so I will put in my two cents. I do not believe in the legalization of all drugs but do feel that a strong case can be made in favor of the legalization of marijuana. Before all of the anti-drug people attack me let me make it clear to them that country has plenty of drugs legalized already. Caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol being the biggest three non-prescription drugs that can be pointed out without even going into some of the horribly abused prescription drugs like oxycontin. I feel that much of the crime associated with marijuana stems from the fact that it is currently illegal. If marijuana were made legal and regulated like alcohol it could be kept (as much as alcohol is) out of the hands of minors, and you would eliminate the criminal element associated with it.

If you kicks someone's door in....while carrying a gun and wearing armor....yep, you deserve to be shot. The attacker is armed and dangerous AND would only be wearing armor due to the RISK factor of his aggressive actions--he knew this was a dangerous thing to do, but instead of choosing NOT to do it, he tried to minimize his personal damage by wearing armor!! . It seems people defending the assailant don't have a concept of the meaning of the word "mistake". Or the meaning of "justifiable". Or "risk". ACTIONS cause reactions. If the man didn't want to get shot, he shouldn't have gone armed to someone's house and kicked the door in. No, I've never been shot, but then I don't go around robbing or assaulting people."Don't do the crime if you can't do the time," is NOT a new concept, people.

@keeping it real

This is the type of comment that BURNS me up. "Regardless of what Ricardo was doing" really? I guess you wish it was the homeowner who got shot. huh? He got what he deserved. He knew the risk. Why was he wearing body Armor? "He was a young man with his life ahead of him" really? I'm sorry, we got the wrong guy. I forgot he had a scholarship to Duke. You run the risk of being shot or killed when you kick someone door in with the intent of robbing or killing them. I'm sorry, I have no remorse for this young man. I'm sick and tired of opening the newspaper everyday reading about young black men day after day and people like you saying oooohh they are not that bad.

It saddens me to know that we live in a world where people think that someone's death is justified. Regardless of what Ricardo was doing taking his life was not the solution. If the owner saw them, he had time to pick up a phone and call the police. He was a young man with a life ahead of him but was led astray by some old fools, May he rest in peace. No matter how you all view it just know he was somebodys, father, son, brother, friend, nephew, cousin he was human. We all make mistakes, I just hate that he had to pay with his life.

Quoting yep:
Seriously..you are so uninformed with that rambling comment you just made. If it was legal and the government sold it ( like they to alcohol)..then they wouldn't have broke into this mans house to steal the pot!!!! Do some research. I'm sure lots of people were saying the same thing about alcohol back in the day. Take the power away from the criminals....

With all due respect @yep - do your own research - there are places where drugs are legal, do some research into just how "great" life is in these places. It makes absolutely no sense to legalize drugs. We already have morphed into a quasi-nanny state where it's okay to live off the system, from a nation where we were proud to "pull ourselves up". Legalizing drugs is an even further wandering down the path to bonafide socialism where no 1 has to accept personal responsbility for themselves or their behavior. Crime is not resolved by legalization.

@ yep that wasn't a rambling comment & I know how to do research.That is highly foolish to think the government would become the very thing they put behind bars..drug dealers.Yeah people said the same thing about alcohol but that's a legal form of a common sense altering "product" that sometimes causes the same type of crimes that legalizing drugs would cause. Which is why I am glad drugs are illegal.Imagine a world where drugs were legal and people had the opportunity to do whatever they pleased simply because it was legal. There would be no limit to what they'd do, heck look around you a drug is a drug legal or not. It is the same substance that causes people to abandon any regard to their actions, victimize people, steal from their own family, destroy lives and ultimately is a huge drain on honest hard working people. The idea of drugs being legal is ludacris. I like living in a world with limits and rules, it helps preserve some form of normalism people like you hope to disrupt.

@Legalize It I hope you're joking! Yeah great idea legalize drugs so these punks can freely get high all day and vitimize innocent people.? Are you on drugs? Yeah I think the rest of us can agree you most likely are high at this moment as you type foolishness. Why should everyone else work hard froe EVERYTHING we own only to have criminals Take it from us. I say no way!The innocent are not gonna keep sitting idle while theives take over. As sad as it is to say I have no sympathy for the man who died because truth be told that is what him and his"crew" intended for the homeowner. I agree with the others who left intelligent responses but to you "Legalize It" lets hope you arent the next victim of a home invasion oh You may end up smoking with the offenders. Happy Holidays Everyone!

In every choice we make there are consequences. These young men made their choice to break into someone's house and one paid with his life, yes its sad that this young man lost his life right here at Christmas, but do I personally feel sorry for him NOT AT ALL. People have a right to protect themselves by ANY MEANS NECESSARY, and for those who think it's ok to go around and break into other people's home you better read the changes to the Castle Doctrine before you make your final decision.
