The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate a morning shooting in which Antonio Jerod Mills, 29, was murdered. Two other people in the Ward Drive mobile home off Rhea Smith Road were shot.

Major Bruce Temple said the call of shots fired came in shortly after midnight.

As deputies responded an additional 911 call came through that said witnesses were involved in a chase with the suspect vehicle, which was last seen around the Highway 48 and Highway 158 area of Roanoke Rapids.

Investigators learned two men entered the home of Mills and a struggle ensued. The struggle ended after one of the suspects repeatedly shot Mills. Temple declined to discuss what kind of weapon was used and declined to name the two suspects who were also shot.

There was no physical description immediately available of the suspects and Temple declined further comment on the case.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriff’s office at 252-583-1991 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.

Just one of the reasons I believe in gun ownership, concealed carry permits, and that dead men don't testify as to what their intentions were when they broke into my home! And I feel that pistols don't really get the job done in home protection.... I think shotguns cover that area a lot better!

I have to really agree with wow.!, it is getting to the point where I feel like I am no longer safe in my own home. At night I do a walk through of my home and make sure my kids are safe, I worry about my friends and loved ones. People are getting so mean and don't care about human life anymore, they take what they want and do't care who they hurt. I never wanted a gun in my home before but I am seriously thinking about getting a gun permit to protect my family in case someone decides to target my home. It doesn't matter anymore which neighboehood you live in because crime does not have a specific area. People please watch the company you keep not everyone is there for your well being, some come just to see what you have so they can victimize you later!

No kidding. This is the main reason why I keep to myself, and only associate myself with people I have known for years, and who share the same views about safety I have.

This is really scary to think that our town, the community we live in is having things happen like this on a regular basis. Its getting really bad around here whether you realize it or not. I no longer feel that safe around here.
