Emergency management personnel continued their search today on Lake Gaston for a missing 24-year-old Raleigh man.

Deputy Josh Clark of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said officials consider the effort to locate Karl Besas a search operation.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary was summoned to the lake today to minimize boat traffic around the search area, located off Vincent Circle in the Myrick Estates subdivision. The boat landing at Bluebird Point is the staging area.

“We’re trying to utilize all resources we have available,” Clark said.

Besas went swimming with four other friends around 11 p.m. Friday. They left in a boat from a dock on Vincent Circle. When they finished their swim they noticed Besas did not rejoin them. One of the friends jumped in the water to look for him but could not find him.

Officials Saturday said Besas was a good swimmer.
