The report also indicates Dustin Travis Nowell, 21, allegedly tried to assault an officer after he was being arrested Thursday.

According to a report from Officer Roy Ball, Nowell, of Washington Street, was charged with assault on a government official and escape from custody while resisting arrest.

Nowell was also charged with possession of methadone, possession of drug paraphernalia and carrying a concealed weapon.

He was also served a warrant for trespassing.

Police declined to comment on whether Nowell had a seizure when he crashed a 2006 Impala into a house on the 1100 block of Hamilton Street. They cited the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.

Nowell was originally charged with DWI and police are awaiting lab results to determine what substance he was allegedly impaired with.

Nowell, who was first released to the custody of his parents, was jailed on a $1,300 secured bond and has a March 4 court date.

The wreck took down a utility pole and totaled the car he was driving. Damage to the house was minimal.

Drugs aren't bad news, drugs are just molecules. People who USE drugs are bad news, it's a CHOICE people make. Just like I CHOOSE NOT to do drugs or drink and get up everyday, get my cane and GO TO WORK, walking with a cane, so I can make sure all the deadbeats living on my tax dollars can buy their drugs, live in their section 8 housing, get their light bill paid and get their food stamps. YOU'RE welcome, it's my pleasure!

He should have had a larger amount bond with all those charges he had...maybe his parents was friend of the magistrate. I have seen people with less charges have higher bonds than that!!!

Am I mistaken? Did the magistrate release a 21 years of age grown man to his parents? Never mind I read between the lines. Must be nice!

Nope. You are not seeing things. They released a grown man to his parents. Makes you wonder how much of a man he really is. He is probably a momma's boy and was calling on mom to lay his little head on her lap like a child...really, REALLY pathetic.

I pray for him and his parents...drugs are bad news for everyone involved. So many young lives ruined and so many families heartbroken...when will it end? God help us all.
