More information has emerged in a stand-off in Rich Square today, the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald of Ahoksie reports.

Northampton County Sheriff Wardie Vincent told the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald that a man believed to have been involved in a shooting death earlier this morning on Roberts Road in Rich Square is under arrest.

The suspect, whose name is not known at this time, was inside his residence on Roberts Road, located near Rich Square-Creecy School, when law enforcement officers arrived to question him about the earlier shooting.

“Shot were fired by the suspect at the officers,” Sheriff Vincent said. “Fortunately, no one was struck by the bullets, but one of my vehicles was hit by several rounds.”

Vincent added that the suspect was eventually talked into surrendering and was immediately taken into custody.

Meanwhile, residents near the scene of the stand-off were quickly evacuated and Roberts Road was closed to all motorists and pedestrians. Those residents have now returned to their homes and the street has been re-opened.

The Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald is attempting to gain additional information about the shooting death and eventual stand-off.
