A newborn baby was found dead on a kitchen floor at a house on 1003 Franklin Street Wednesday night, according to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

Deputy Chief Adam Bondarek said police and EMS responded to a medical emergency call around 10 p.m.

Officers determined a juvenile had given birth to a baby, which was found unresponsive on the floor.

The baby was pronounced dead at Halifax Regional Medical Center. “Investigators are looking into the circumstances of this horrific situation,” Bondarek said.

He declined to elaborate.

I feel so bad for this child. I am also astounded by the fact that the officals gave out her address even though they did not list her name. It is bad enough she had to experience such a mishap, but now all of Roanoke Rapids and the surrounding areas know of it as well. I also agree with other posters who believe that the child's mother and father should be charged with a crime as it is their responsiblity for the well being of their child as she could have also died during the birthing process. I wonder if her parents had even taken her to see a doctor?

This is so sad.I got pregnant when i was just a young teenager and it had nothing to do with the way i was raised my mom was a hard working single mother and i was a hard headed teenager who knew everything.Even though it broke my mothers heart she stood by me and as scared as i was i am so thankful that my momma loved me enough to still be there for me.It has been 11 years and i had to grow up really fast i never got to do alot of things teenage girls do but i wouldnt trade it for nothing.I dont know this young girl, but i feel really bad if she didnt have someone to help her threw this because it is really scary.I cant imagine how it feels to loose your child it has got to be the worst pain a mother could feel.

That address is less than 2 miles from the hospital. There's no excuse for not going there when she went into labor. It sounds like this family didn't care, and didn't even try to do the right thing.

In response to Loving Me, "So, we shouldn't blame the child( the that gave birth) for this." That's what is wrong with today's society. No personal accountability! Somewhere, somehow, somebody needs to stand up and take responsibility and children need to be taught this!

So many people jump to conclusions. We have not been told the whole story.Nevertheless I'm sure this girl was very frightened. Put yourself or your child in this situation and you don't know how you would feel. I feel bad for the infant but I also feel bad for the child who gave birth. So sad.

A few of us here have misread this article. It is not stated that the juvenile killed the newborn. It may well have been stillborn. Let us not jump to conclusions. Secondly, IF foul play WAS involved, then I have to disagree with you, LOVING ME, the juvenile AND her parents should be held accountable. Just because you are a juvenile, scared, and confused does not alleviate you responsibility as an expectant parent, and "ignorance is no excuse from the law" as it is said. Likewise, her parents should be held accountable. Personally, I think that a minor getting impregnated should be followed with a charge on the parents of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. It is irresponsible at best, on both parties, that this child was pregnant and giving birth somewhere OTHER than a medical facility! 9-1-1 should be a household number that all children know. My 3-year-old knows how and when to dial it!!

This makes me so sad. My husband and I would do anything to have a baby and we can't. I wish they had given us the opportunity to raise this baby. And before anyone says it NO I am not just saying that I really mean it.
