Edwards Edwards Halifax County Sheriff's Office

A fight following a Halloween party early this morning ended in the stabbing death of a Roanoke Rapids man.

Friends drove Joshua Luke Green, 23, to Halifax Regional Medical Center but he did not survive the injuries sustained in the fight off Mills Street, according to Captain Jay Burch of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to Mills Street around 1 a.m. on a stabbing call. Investigation revealed that a fight occurred in the parking lot of the VFW post in Roanoke Rapids off Thelma Road where a costume party occurred. At Mills Street the parties crossed paths where another fight occurred involving the same people. Green was stabbed twice in the side and cut on his neck.

Burch explained to rrspin.com this morning after the first fight Green and friends left on a car. They passed the parties who would end up being charged in the murder, Curtis Wayne Edwards, 43, and Kasey O'Neal Tanner, 23, who were walking.

A beer bottle was thrown at the car Green was in and another fight ensued. Green was stabbed with what Burch described as a folding knife. While it is not clear whether both men allegedly stabbed Green, they both allegedly participated and were charged in his murder. One knife was recovered, Burch said.

Both Edwards and Tanner, of Roanoke Rapids, were jailed without the opportunity for bond and have December 7 court dates.

It is not clear what the argument was about.

See, Hear, Speak no evil, at one some time these small characters that portrayed this saying may have brought a smile, but for the family of Joshua Green it does not. In the darkness of Sunday 10/30/11 someone saw or heard but is NOT speaking. Loss of a child holds a sad future for a mother, I too have traveled this path for over 30 yrs without the answers to the questions who or why, so I ask this of you if you saw or heard it is now time to speak....Justice for Joshua Green!

In reading this report and seeing comments on facebook by those involved, How can they pin point who did the stabbing? I understand that there were many people involved in this street brawl. Most of all whom were intoxicated in one way or another. This is happening more and more in our little town of horrors!I pray for ALL involved. This is a tragidy in more ways then one.I will follow this case and seek out what I find to be fact and true, not base my judgements upon anyone person until.

I think that people in R.R. need to become more educated and realize that ALCOHOL and DRUGS is running rampid in their community. Stop throwing around all this bible thumpin mumbo jumbo and realize that people need to get help. God is not going to throw your community a life raft. Take back the community for your children and elderly realitives and stop throwing around hateful and hurtful words. Yes a young man was killed. But if he hadn't had been in the wrong place at the wrong time it couldn't have happened. They all were in the wrong..but one is no more guilty than the other. The fight could have went the other way as well. Enough said. Stop allowing the Police and Sheriffs Dept. to turn their back on these situations. Make them accountable for doing their JOBS!

u have to think about that because its not jus the two accused that had something to do with it. it was all of them! if they wouldnt have stopped and of course things were said he should have been the better man and drove away.

Edwards and Tanner deserve exactly what they dealt out........DEATH ROW! Make an example out of them, and maybe their family members will not follow in their foot steps.

I agree but a knife didnt have to be pulled and he would still have his life. He was turning his life around by going to church. YES maybe both parties are to blame but NO he didnt deserve to lose his life.

Lance, this maybe off topic but this is my last response to this, if you allow it. Let me get this straight. My whole life I have killed, raped, tortured and maimed and didn't think twice about whom I did it to, I'm laying on my death bed and NOW I say lord I accept you as my savior, Do I still get into the pearlie gates?

What happen to thou shall not kill? A young man was involved in a fight with these people and now he is dead. I mean did he fall on the knife? I don't think God reward bad people...that would be the guy downstairs.

T-one nowhere in my my statement does it say anything about Gods reward it says HIS judgement. But Gods reward for accepting him as your Lord and Savior is eternal life and Gods punishment for sin is death and eternal damnation. And the guy downstairs doesnt reward anyone hes there kinda like the correctional officer just to make sure your sentence is carried out.

I'm kinda distrout on how all these people on here are praying for the deceased family and so quick to judge and convict to two suspects. Its a good thing the courts have to pick an impartial jury. Last time i checked we still live in whats called THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA where you are innocent until proven guilty. The bible says that you are not to judge your fellow man. According to the law when a person is convicted of a crime and serves his or her time, pays restition and is hereby released by the state that crime or any other past crimes cannot be held against you for any other legal agenda. Keep judging people for you will meet your maker one day and HE will cast his judgement upon YOU.
