A 37-year-old Littleton area woman has been charged with allegedly shooting her child, the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported this afternoon.

Lt. Bobby Martin said in a news release Kisha M. Harper was charged and arrested in the shooting of her daughter. She is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury in the Aug. 22 shooting, which occurred in the Myrick Estates subdivision near Littleton.

Martin said Harper turned herself in today and was jailed on $5,000 bond. She has an Oct. 28 court date.

In a telephone interview with The Spin this afternoon, Martin said the woman had a .357 revolver in her hand and the weapon was fired, the bullet traveling through a wall and then striking the child in the abdomen.

He said there was no evidence of an argument between Harper and the child’s father when the gun was fired.

Consultation with the Halifax County District Attorney’s Office led to the charge being filed, Martin said.

The child continues to recover in the intensive care unit of Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
