Mitchell Mitchell Halifax County Sheriff's Office

A Roanoke Rapids man who escaped a Halifax County murder rap in 2008 will appear in federal court in Greenville May 9 on crack distribution charges, according to court records.

Damien Edward “Dang Dang” Mitchell was indicted on three counts in September, federal court records show.

He faces charges of distributing a quantity of crack cocaine, distributing 28 grams of crack cocaine and a count that he allegedly committed the crimes contained in counts 1 and 2 after having two previous convictions for felony drug convictions.

In April, 2008, Mitchell and Charles “Oosie” Hockaday fled to Virginia Beach and then took a trip to Myrtle Beach following the shotgun slaying of Jerry Yellorday.

Hockaday and Mitchell left for the beaches when they learned warrants were issued for their arrest and after returning to Roanoke Rapids turned themselves in one by one.

Mitchell has an extensive criminal background and was charged a month before the Yellorday murder for an incident in the parking lot of Eddie's Place, a local pool hall which is now closed, in which he was allegedly involved in a shoot-out with another person.

Yellorday was shot as he sat in his vehicle outside his house.

In October 2008, however, no probable cause was found that Mitchell or Hockaday killed Yellorday.

Thanks for the reminder big boy. There is a new story which shows he took a plea. U.S. Attorney will most likely send a press release on the full story near the end of this week for early next week.

If you are God fearing person. God will always be in the mix. I'm glad that God has the final say. Because the same way that God forgives us for talking mean and hurting people with words. He will forgive Damion. The battle is not anyone's its the Lords.

I have come to the conclusion that everybody has an opinion. I have come to the conclusion that we can go back and forward about what will happen or what will not happen. I have also come to the conclusion that there are things that this man has or has not done. My final conclusion and post on the entire matter is that, WE ALL have to meet our maker. Whether we have done something wrong or if we have never done anything in our entire life. I will tell you this, I will no longer waste my time responding on what will happen or will not happen to someone else. I will count my own blessing and pray for the just and the un-just. I pray for all families. The living, the jailed, and the laid to rest. Oh, One more thing, don't worry about responding to this post, because I promise you I want be reading your post. Be Blessed, be encouraged, be happy, and by all means, post all you want. Have a great life.

How long do he think out here doing what he doing to others was gone last? He doing to others what was done to him knowing how it feel. Damien Mitchell needs to pay for what he done. I said it and I will not take it back. God knows, IM not wishing bad on him, but he have hurt so many families, friends, beat women, shot people, its time that justice be served and he learn his lesson. I will pray for him and his family as well.

Quoting mustafa:
I've known Dang since he was a spoiled baby and I have two words for you bro "Good riddance". I for one will not be missing you. Knowing you; IF NOT ALREADY I'm pretty sure you're going to get on that help your self plan when the Feds offer it to you.

I am almost positive that they killed the Yellorday young man, Its senseless that murders keep getting away with it..Now that family can feel justice for their loved one. Theres no changing in people like that. They like the reputation and the attention they get so if they are not locked up they will continue destructing...No pity from me for Dang Dang..

I agree with Mustafa..GOOD RIDDANCE. its about time that someone finally get punishments. I see everybody is writing how he has a heart of gold and his past mistakes..ok a person with a heart of gold does not commit murder, I for one am glad that he is locked up so now I can worry less about my own children running into the low life thug..thank u FEDS

I cant believe that people are bringing god into this whole situation. This fellow has been around for years doing crimes, drugs, being violent and have destroyed alot of things in our community. Regardless of his good heart or not, the JUDGE in that federal courtroom will have the last say so. He will reap with he sew. Simple as that. He have done bad, paid for it, continued to do bad, now will pay for it some more. Its just thats simple. He is not a angel, this is not his first crime, this is not his first conviction, so what are you saying? This fellow has robbed, killed, dealt drugs, fought, stole, u name it, it is on his criminal record. So why act like he is so perfect now because the federal agents got him. He in there telling on people just like someone told on him.

Ok I have read several of the post on this case. Many times we judge because we are afraid or upset. History has shown many who are our peers are not able to determine if we are guilty or not. Drugs and anger has ruled our society for years. This county is no different from others at some point in our lives we have dealt with drugs, ie family or work related. Lets not speak ill of his actions but now rebuild this young brother thinking. His actions is not different from those who ran bootleg and wore sheets. The time is now to look at where u lay your haead and say its time for a change. If not the next young brother black or white will be the next to step up and take his place on the corner. I have been in this area 5 years and seen worst, but its the community that need the wake up. only thing this brother can do is his time or what the so call peers has in store for him.
The prophet jesus at his death had men beside him that society felt was the worst of the worst.

How do you know he wasn't preached to when he was doing things? How do you know what will be said or done in the court room? This is not about preaching to you and no one else. It's the fact that we all fall short. No one person is perfect. God speak to man and the devil do too. I'm saying, how would you fell if it was your child, or family member? This area is full of people who do stuff they shouldn't be doing, but if you were not there when it was said to be done, how can you say it was. That's the problem with people now. They always assume something is true because someone else said it was. Just because somebody said you jumped off a bridge, don't mean you really did even if you are such a good citizen>>> Even in the court room, what ever happens, will happen. No matter the comments that you post, I post, or the next person post, We don't know what will happen! It is not in my hands or yours. How is that for a serman?
