The case of a missing teenager who returned safely home Friday led to criminal charges today when a New York fugitive was arrested for two counts of statutory rape.

Roanoke Rapids police Deputy Chief Adam Bondarek said Corey Shawn Pough, 29, has been jailed on $1.1 million bond after it was learned he failed to register as a sex offender in New York. For that he was charged with a count of contempt of court.

The 15-year-old girl was reported missing October 4 by her mother after she didn’t come home from a dance at the Kirkwood Adams Civic Center two days before, Bondarek said.

The child was missing since October 2 and returned home Friday.

Today, Bondarek said investigators located the apartment at 403 East Littleton Road where the child was at during those dates. “Based on witness statements, physical evidence and the suspect’s statements, Pough has been charged with the aforementioned crimes.”

Bondarek declined to elaborate. Pough has an October 20 court date.
