A man and woman were charged Thursday night after they allegedly beat a guest they invited to their Hinson Street home.

Lincoln Michael Stanley, 33, and Joann Stanley, 26, both face charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and attempted common law robbery.

The victim, according to Captain Andy Jackson of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department, said the Stanleys invited him over on the pretense they were going to hang out and he had been there on prior occasions.

Arriving at the house he was asked if he wanted to buy any household appliances, to which he replied he did not.

The victim told police Mr. Stanley then allegedly attempted “to pimp his wife out, asking for money.”

The man declined the offer and when he attempted to leave he was struck in the back of the head with what he believed to be a lamp. He fell to the floor and both allegedly began punching the victim, who fought back and got away, heading to his vehicle, which was parked on Franklin Street.

As he was walking, Sergeant Mike Moseley found him and called EMS for treatment of visible wounds.

Mr. Stanley was jailed on $10,000 bond and his wife on $5,000 bond. They have January 4 court dates.

So if you're not sure of what the neighborhood looks like or how the streets are, you really shouldn't be commenting because in that area...you sometimes do have to park on a different street. But then again...you never know the situation fully.

If you take into consideration where this house is located and the small driveway it has and that Franklin Street is right across the street, it is not unusual to park there instead of backing onto Hinson Street. In some of my photo trips, I have parked on Franklin Street to shoot photos at the rail crossing — Editor

It sounds fishy to me. Why would he park on another street if he was visiting? Why is the door frame all broke up? Maybe he is not telling the truth. Maybe he broke in their house. Why believe him? Just saying!!

Quoting Susan:
Why would you park on Franklin St. to visit a house on Hinson St? Somethings up with this story.

Great minds.. I had the exact same thought.. a bit odd.. regardless, if these 2 people committed the crime, let's hope they do the time. Again though, it all comes back to personal responsibility. I can honestly say I have never entered a "friends" home and been offered to buy their appliances or sleep with their spouse.. personal responsibility in the life you lead and the people you fill it with ya know?

What a shame! What is our community coming to? I sometimes wonder if we wouldn't be safer in South Central LA! Kudos to Officer Mike Moseley for noticing that this victim was injured and required EMS! Good job!!!!!!
